Agua Fresca (Fresh Water) Recipe
3 cups diced strawberries, watermelon, melon, pineapple, jicama, OR mango
1 1/2 cups water
2 - 4 tablespoons raw sugar
juice of 2-3 limes (optional)
pinch of salt (optional)
Agua fresca literally translates to "fresh water" and is the perfect summer fruit drink. Frescas are commonly served in Mexico from large jars with a ladle and are super easy to make.
Dice fruit and remove any seeds. Puree selected fruit in a blender. Pour through a fine sieve to eliminate all pulply material. Mix strained fruit puree with water in a large pitcher. Season with raw sugar, lime juice and salt to taste. Chill for at least an hour or overnight.
Substitutions: Artificial sweetener can be substituted for the sugar to create a low calorie drink. Just about any fruit that can be pureed can be used.
